High Rocks pre-wedding shoot

Just loved working with Stef and Dave today down in Tunbridge Wells at The High Rocks. What an amazing location and incredible couple these guys are, I can’t wait to shoot their wedding at Elvy Farm in June. Look how cool they look together, don’t you think?

Ellky May portfolio shoot

Last Saturday I shot some images for a wedding client of mine who is setting up a make-up and bespoke occasion design business. Kelly – who’s lovely wedding is featured on this blog – has decided she wants to give up the day job and be her own boss and so Ellky May was born.

Despite having the talent she had little in the way of evidence to show the world her skills. That’s where I stepped in. I shot a series of images capturing two very strong make-up looks, supported by superb styling from Kelly herself and good friend of mine, fellow photographer Natasha Davies. Included in the shoot where numerous still lives of colours and textures from the scene and props and items kindly lent by Natasha, that will help support the Ellky May brand and reenforce the style and elegant grace that Kelly seems able to effortlessly produce.

Our location couldn’t have been more perfect. The Barn at Bury Court in Bentley is the most amazing venue I’ve been to for a long time, and right on my door step too. The oak beamed hall bristling with fairy lights, the en-suite Oast house bedrooms with kitchen and gardens all have a dreamlike quality that would capture the imagination of any bride and groom to be, guaranteeing a wedding to remember (can you tell I’ve worked in advertising?).

For more information on Ellky May watch this space. I’m helping Kelly with branding, a website and printed material to promote her budding business so I’ll be sure to up-date this post as and when I’ve more news.

Traditional wedding in Kent

Tell you what, I love this place – Elvey Farm in Kent. I’ve been there a number of times now and already have something booked for 2012. It’s the most typically English spot I can think of and it’s just always beautiful there when I visit. Tim & Emma’s day was no exception, good people are a pleasure to work with and what an amazing day they had.

A vintage September wedding

Ruth and James chose Dorset’s Dancing Ledge as the setting for their rustic celebration, both being from Aldershot it made perfect sense! Ruth looking stylish in her antique dress and James the epitome of nerd-chic in his retro suit. The paradox between grand church ceremony and simple campsite reception was über cool and also made perfect sense to me.

I’ve know these childhood sweet-hearts a while and it still never ceases to amaze me when a couple who’ve know each other for so long, finally tie-the-knot and do so with such love, respect and connection. Makes me wanna cry!

Super cool, totally loving and laid back affair. Hats off to you both… may you live long and prosper.

Michaela & Chris’ October wedding

Shorter days, clouds and rain should never dampen any wedding day, the light from within shines non the less. It’s up to the photographer to capture this and let it burst out of the photographs for all to see. Hopefully I’ve gone some of the way in doing this for Michaela & Chris on their Kent wedding in Rochester. Coincidentally the ceremony and reception were at the foot of the hill upon which my art college stands, the college that taught me all I know!

My usual reportage style can be seen in full effect with the bride and groom opting for minimal posed shots and more ‘fly-on-the-wall’ documentary images, just to my liking.

A lovely day was had by all and it’s always a pleasure to work with such happy, friendly, funny clients. Have a great future guys!

Emma & Lisa’s late summer wedding

Sitting here, watching the snow fall outside it’s hard to recall the warm, sunny late summer wedding I shot in September. Amongst the wheat fields of The Garden of England, Emma and Lisa’s wedding was a perfect day in so many ways. The weather, the venue (Elvey Farm, Pluckley, Kent) the guests, the food, the flowers and of course the married couple were all just gorgeous. It was such a pleasure working with the girls, charming, accommodating and allowing me access everywhere and to everyone. I was treated like an old friend, they kept asking me if I was okay even though they were facing one of the most nerve wracking days of their lives! Given these factors I found it hard not to produce such lovely images, even if I do say so myself.

I’ve shared just a few of the pictures here for you to see. If you want to see more please contact me via the Enquire page, and I’ll arrange to share the password with you.

Thanks for looking,

Jake
